Yes, you're right. [Thank god (Nahida) the kids are alright.
Kaveh's face falls a little then, though.] ...I admit I'm having trouble thinking of alternatives, though. If they won't let us speak to the person capable of reviving us, that is.

[ his voice takes a slightly sharp turn, suddenly more verbose. ]
...They said there's tasks and competitions we can win at. If you keep your teammates alive, and work well together, four people can probably still out-earn a smaller team that's killed someone. Especially if they start trying to—..."erase" someone early, and get removed from the competition.

Yeah. [ ... ] There's nothing wrong with making alliances.

Yes. You know, I was in a competition shortly before all of this--my senior was kind enough to work with me for a few rounds. It's... I'm glad she isn't here, of course, but I do miss her expertise.

Well, for the first round, we were tasked with catching a certain type of butterfly. It was her idea to use some of the mechanical bait the two of us previously worked on in order to attract them. For the second, we both arrived at the destination at the same time, so we carried out the task together. Alha--that is, someone in charge refused to let us split the points, so she was kind enough to draw lots with me to see who would get them.
Technically, yes, for those rounds.[He supposes you could look at it that way.] We didn't work together on the final round, which turned out to be a good thing.
Pretty terrible, honestly. It turned out that the person who provided the Diadem left a piece of his consciousness inside of it, and he wanted to find someone to impart the results of his research to. Only, the results of his research were that humanity is hopelessly doomed to inevitable conflict, torment, and despair. I didn't even put the thing on, and I still felt like my head was about to explode.
[Sometimes your winner's tiara is possessed]
It worked out in the end, though. I was able to destroy it and donate his money.
[ okay. that all sounds like something out of a movie. but okay. at this point who is he not to simply accept these things. ]
Sounds like he was... dramatic. [ his tone is level, but somehow still deeply derogatory. even from a sports protag perspective, thinking all of humanity is in a Perpetual Doom Cycle of Tears is a lot. ] Glad you didn't agree with him.
...Mm. [...] Sumeru is built on knowledge and wisdom. As a scholar, I have to acknowledge that it was arrogant to reject his findings. In the most technical sense, he pursued a theory, and found evidence to support it. But he didn't take what he learned and try to do good. Instead, he decided to experiment--to see what other people would do with his knowledge. All the pain and harm he caused over the years... [Something seems to pass across his expression, then--a deep, old sadness, one that he pushes away after a moment. He shakes his head.] Sealing his research was the right thing to do.
I think it's a great idea
I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me. [He's not embarrassed about making a scene, really, he just feels bad for making people concerned.]

That guy's a lunatic.

Someone mentioned he may have simply been trying to cause a stir. But even if that's the case, I can't just let him talk like that.
no subject
That's a stupid reason to say something like that. Especially when everyone's on edge.
[ especially when it might give people ideas, he means. ]
no subject
I don't disagree. [...] I know he's not the only one thinking it--especially after what those three said. But still.

[ it's pretty unambiguously encouraged, and the reapers didn't exactly dissuade anyone, it's true. ]
That doesn't mean anyone has to acknowledge it.

Yes, you're absolutely right. Giving up helps no one--and there's no reason we can't look out for each other as long as we can.

So one of you ended up losing anyway, but you both made it to the end together?
[ it doesn't hurt to at least guarantee your place in the "finals," so to speak. ]
