We know what the rules say can happen on Thursday nights. But protecting us from someone who wanted to try their hand at Erasure by preventing them from entering the building would run counter to that. If anything, it's probably to restrict our movements and make it more difficult for us to hide.

It's only a theory, but... maybe it's just that we can't get out. Someone else might be able to get in. There are locks that work one-way, after all.
