[After making a big ol' fuss about Humanity and Not Murdering People, Kaveh is just chilling on a curb somewhere, nursing a coffee and gazing out at the shadowy figures around them. He seems lost in thought, and a touch sad, though he schools his expression when he sees her and straightens up a bit.]
[ she's here to chat, actually. because it's good to get to know the mindsets of the other players here, and he's the only guy with a map of the city so far as she knows.
though, she's not exactly being delicate about it... ]
[It's fine, he'd feel worse if she felt like she had to comfort him anyway.
Kaveh waves a hand, though, dismissive.]
I'm not afraid of him. He wouldn't be the first person to try and kill me, thinking I'm an easy target. [He's a little uncomfortable not having his sword, actually, even if he'd absolutely prefer not to have to use it. He wouldn't call himself a warrior, but he's not incompetent, either.]
Sumeru society would have to care more about aesthetics for that. [GOD. He wishes someone would attack him because they're passionate about beautiful buildings tbh.] No, nothing like that--I've just had a few incidents with scammers, mostly. [DO YOU EVER JUST REPAIR A DUDE'S HOUSE AND THEN THEY CHEAT YOU OUT OF MONEY AND TRY TO KILL YOU...] Or while traveling on my own, sometimes.
[Which is less surprising given how he dresses tbh]
(but there are so many ways a scam could happen. sometimes you don't get your money back in the end, even if you catch the perpetrator. sometimes a scammer might try to kill you before you've even realized what's going on, taking advantage of your foolishness. or sometimes...)
... ]
Sorry, that sucks.
[ the words probably fall a bit flat, but they're not insincere. ]
Kaveh's face falls, and he looks down at his lap.]
I would love to try. [He's sure that's not a surprise.] But... it would be cruel to ask people not to fight for their lives. And without being able to speak to whoever is capable of reviving us... I'm not sure what else I can do.
[ ...she's not in the business of giving advice she doesn't believe in. also not really in the business of giving advice at all? but it would be awkward to just leave him hanging after prying. ]
You're gonna burn out worrying about everyone else. Just focus on taking care of yourself. It's not like you're the one responsible if someone else causes trouble.
[It's easy to say that now, he thinks--before anything has happened, before it truly feels real. But he knows himself well enough to know that there's no avoiding the guilt he's going to feel once blood is spilt. It may not be his fault, but there's nothing he can do to stop it--and isn't that close enough?
(Isn't that the punishment someone like him deserves?)]
I can't think like that. [Under normal circumstances, he would argue against her viewpoint entirely, and vehemently. But it's like he said--asking people not to take care of themselves is the same as asking them to sit down and die.] ...But I'll be alright. Don't worry about me.
[SWEET YUZURIHA!!! Fortunately, for all that Kaveh is a bleeding heart, he's been through too much to be naive. They caught the killer--he isn't all that broken up about that, even if he still hates how little he can do in this situation as a whole.]
